General
Why did you leave your most recent position?

I felt I had accomplished all goals associated with that yacht program and would like to find a new challenge.

What kind of hobbies do you have, or what do you like to do in your free time?

Paddle boarding, surfing, snorkeling, spearfishing, biking, sailing, exploring new destinations.

Is the yachting industry a career for you, or more of a sabbatical?

Definately a career.

Describe what type of situation on board you feel you would fit in best?

As a captain I like to have solid crew members. When the crew is good it allows me to be at my best.

Captain
How much freedom do you feel an Owner should allow his Captain in terms of hiring crew?

In most cases I feel the captain should be given the responsibility to find and hire competent crew. However, I would respect and observe the owners opinions.

What do you do when you disagree with the Owner?

It would depend on the situation but I would try to find a common ground where we could both be happy with the situation. In most cases I have done whatever it takes within my power to keep my employer happy.

I would certainly do my best to find a solutuion that would satisfy the owners wants and needs while keeping the well being and safety of the yacht and it's passengers first.

How do you handle conflicts between crew members?

I would talk to them individually and try to resolve the conflict before taking any permanent action.

If the conflict could not be resolved then crew changes would be made if necessary.

How much down time do you feel a yacht needs each year, to ensure a safe and happy crew?

Every program is different and down time can take on serveral different meanings. That being said, I feel down time should correspond with the itinerary and the frequency the yacht is used by it's owners and be specific to it's program.

How much time is the maximum time that should pass between emergency procedure drills on board?

In most cases 1 month unless there is new crew.

What do you feel is the most important quality for a successful Captain to have?

The type of leadership skills that result in decisions that are in the best interest of the owner, the boat and it's crew.
