Why did you leave your most recent position? 

To further my career in the private luxury yacht industry, towards a commitment to a Masters qualification.

What kind of hobbies do you have, or what do you like to do in your free time?  

Very much an outdoor, adventure type lifestyle, particularly on or around the water. Sailing, watersports, fishing, kayaking, climbing and camping, maintaining an achievably healthy balance of life, tempered with reading, writing, appreciating music and self development.

Is the yachting industry a career for you, or more of a sabbatical?  

 My life long passion for boats and the sea has lead to a commitment towards a long and fulfilling career. I have a sincere thirst for learning and devloping proficiency and experience in both personal and professional aspects regarding my ambitions.

Describe what type of situation on board you feel you would fit in best? 

Definately a progressive environment where development is not only desirable but a priority, and within a culture that thrives on delivering thorough results intent on exceeding expectations.

Captain
How much freedom do you feel an Owner should allow his Captain in terms of hiring crew? 

The Captain should be responsible for establishing a longserving team that can achieve the results and ambitions desired for the yacht and owner.

What do you do when you disagree with the Owner?

How do you handle conflicts between crew members? 

As a mediator in a mature manner that enables members to resolve the conflict, rather than a third party taking control without a thorough understanding of the situation.

How much down time do you feel a yacht needs each year, to ensure a safe and happy crew? 

Given the right management,  its important to maintain a healthy lifestyle for all crew, to develop a professional and responsible culture towards each crew member's role and responsibilities, and ensure crew are frequently and adequately trained in safety procedures.

How much time is the maximum time that should pass between emergency procedure drills on board? 

No more than 30 days, or whenever a new crew member embarks.

What do you feel is the most important quality for a successful Captain to have? 

Effective management in a an enthusastic and positive manner.

Mate
How much responsibility should the Mate take on, to provide for a smooth Captain - Mate relationship? 

The Mate should be supportive and responsible for the day to day management of crew and deck, and have a very strong communication link with the Captain.

How would you handle a scenario where two crew members are becoming a couple, on a boat where couples are not allowed? 

Reiterate the policy of the yacht, be supportive of their decision and encourage carefull and complete cosideration of the direction they which to take their respective careers, and map the various paths and options for them.

What can you do to ensure that your Deckhands are kept busy and challenged by their job? 

Deligate responsibility, ensure their is a clear path of progression and development available.
