| General |
| Why did you leave your most recent position? I left to join my partner on my current boat 'Here Comes The Sun'. |
| What kind of hobbies do you have, or what do you like to do in your free time?
I enjoy been active. I like to keep fit by swimming, running and trying new activities. I love to swim in the ocean and enjoy water sports such as snorkeling and diving. In social time I like to keep in touch with friends or meet new people and enjoy the outdoors. |
| Is the yachting industry a career for you, or more of a sabbatical?
The yachting industry is a career that both my partner and I take professionally. We actively seek ways to improve our knowledge and skills to run the yacht to maximum capacity for the owners enjoyment. We currently run a yacht together, and we have worked together for three years on large yachts up to 170' and our current yacht 82'. |
| Describe what type of situation on board you feel you would fit in best? My partner and I work together as a Captain and Stewardess team therefore we need to ensure that we work together closely with fellow crew in a hard working team environment. We enjoy developing good relationships with the owners and guests to ensure we have their support for the yachts future directions and plans. We are open to travelling off the beaten track. |

| Steward(ess) |
| What can you do to ensure that guest service remains the primary focus of your job, even when they are difficult or demanding? I would always make sure I have good communication with my Captain and crew to ensure that we know the specific needs of the guests and we are all working to achieve the best service for the guests in the most appropriate and efficient way. Regardless of guests been demanding or difficult I am always able to find ways I can to meet and go beyond those expectations. |
| How do you feel the Service, Cabins, and Laundry duties should be shared between the interior crew? I believe a rotation of duties is best for giving all stewardesses experience in all areas and may lead to further longevity with the yacht. However I do believe it is important for the Chief stewardess to be often involved in service. In my current position I have a second stewardess, her main role is to take responsibility for cabins and laundry, whilst I manage the service. However I am always helping in cabins and laundry when time permits and I expect her to also help in service during busy times. |
| What can you do to ensure that the guests are enjoying themselves, without asking them? Always make sure you are one step ahead of them. Think and plan in advance, to make their experience memorable. Always make sure there is a good variety of everything so they can make choices. Keep a smile and maintain a positive and enjoyable atmosphere. |

| Chief Steward(ess) |
| How do you organize yourself to ensure that your work is being kept up with to a high standard? Keep work lists, stick to deadlines, update inventories regularly. I like to continue working until the work intended for that day is done, even if it requires long hours as this means I can start each day fresh and in an organised manner. I like to keep up to date with industry standards by talking with other professionals. |
| How do you manage your Stewardesses to ensure that they remain challenged and interested in their job? I like to give them responsibility in all areas. For example the second stewardess always completes the cabins and laundry however they also complete breakfast service to give them interaction with the guests and learn or maintain their service skills. It is also good to maintain good communication with them and talk about non-related work things such as activities to do ashore in a new port. I also like to give them opportunities to leave the yacht in the case of sharing provisioning tasks, or getting outdoors to drive the tender if necessary. |
| How do you handle a disappointed or disgruntled Owner? If the reason the owner is upset is unrelated to my position or the yacht I keep out of their personal happenings. However if it is something directed at my position or in my hands to improve I will seek advice from my Captain and work together with the Owner by communicating calmly and fixing things in a timely manner at an appropriate time. |
| What do you feel is the most important quality for a successful Chief Stewardess to have? Organisation. Working on a yacht involves using limited space to offer big results. I need to be prepared to deliver any type of requests from guests, and be prepared for the unexpected. The more the yacht is organised as far as having neatly organised storage spaces, stocked and updated inventories, it is then easier to organise the guests and crew needs when the boat is operating a busy schedule. |
| How do you feel the Service, Cabins, and Laundry duties should be shared between the interior crew? I like to give every stewardess experience in all three areas however, the service is the main responsibility of the Chief Stewardess and the Chief Stewardess needs to train the stewardesses to complete cabins and laundry to the highest standards. I personally enjoy completing all three areas and this is why on my current boat I help in all areas when time permits. However I find I need to generally be in service to meet the owner’s requests. |
