| General |
| Why did you leave your most recent position? Management were unproffesional. |
| What kind of hobbies do you have, or what do you like to do in your free time?
I love most all water sports and performance cars/engines. I have Rescue Diver qualification and wish to gain Dive Master. Also enjoy free diving/spearfishing, windsurfing/surfing, kayaking, wake boarding and would love to learn kitesurfing. In my spare time, if I'm not on the water, I am likely to be working on my car, socialising or reading a book. |
| Is the yachting industry a career for you, or more of a sabbatical?
I am looking to build a career in the industry, either working from deckhand to captain or on the engineering side. |
| Describe what type of situation on board you feel you would fit in best? A relaxed and friendly environment with a couple of other crew members. As I am low on experience on vessels of this type, initially being able to work closely with another team member would be great. It wont take me long to pick up what is required and operate as a self starter. |
| DeckHand |
| What do you feel is the primary responsibility of the Deckhand, aside from the exterior maintenance of the vessel? Maintain positive image of vessel, giving assistance where ever possible to other crew members |
| What do you feel is the most important quality for a successful Deckhand to have? Enthusiasm, attention to detail and a desire to please. |
| Engineer |
| How often do you you feel you should have to help out serving meals or tending bar? When ever it is requested as long as the engineering is under control. |
| How would you handle a situation where you feel the boat is not 'ready' to leave the dock, but the departure date cannot be changed? Discuss options with Captain and Chief engineer. Assess risk.
Plan for "fault" to occur
- Have a response plan organised
- Have required parts/ability to repair fault onboard. And plan to implement repairs.
- Organise repairs at next port. |
| How important is it to you to remain clean and presentable when there are guests on board? Extreamely important |
| Between the Mate and the Engineer, who do you feel should be 2nd in command? Depending on qualifications. The mate. In an emergency situation the Engineer may be required to be in the engine room not on the Bridge, therefore unable to perform 2nd in command duties. |
| How important is having an unlimited budget vital to the smooth operation of a luxury yacht? Although extreamely helpful, I dont belive it is vital. However moneys need to be available when required for parts and repairs. Allowing 1 area/part to degrade increases wear and tear/stress on other parts and the crew. |
