| General |
| Why did you leave your most recent position? After almost 3 years of commissioning the yacht, launching and then a 20,000Nm Owner's cruise, I needed a sabbatical and a rest! |
| What kind of hobbies do you have, or what do you like to do in your free time?
hanggliding, paragliding, riding, horese riding, reading, studying, cars |
| Is the yachting industry a career for you, or more of a sabbatical?
I have spent almost 30 years at sea, and intedn to stay to the end of my career. |
| Describe what type of situation on board you feel you would fit in best? Captain - have been Captain now for 24 years - its all I pretty well know! |
| Captain |
| How much freedom do you feel an Owner should allow his Captain in terms of hiring crew? I have a good judge of character which the Owner will soon see, and benefit from |
| What do you do when you disagree with the Owner? He is the Boss, but you are always one argument away from being fired. Have never had a problem facing the Boss when it comes to safety matters, drugs or laws |
| How do you handle conflicts between crew members? Heads of departments must solve them, if not then I will, and if I do they must agree to ALL of my terms, and that could mean a few might get fired. |
| How much down time do you feel a yacht needs each year, to ensure a safe and happy crew? should be sufficient time between charters for a stretch of legs ashore. Vacation time is around 30 days for most crew, so long as I can given them this, then I would like to keep them busy |
| How much time is the maximum time that should pass between emergency procedure drills on board? like to do one a week of some sort |
| What do you feel is the most important quality for a successful Captain to have? I have an open style and discuss and explain everything (except Owners matters of course) the best they can expect is a 'benovolent dictatorship' though - not a democracy |
