General
Why did you leave your most recent position?

I am leaving my current position because it is not a good fit for my long-term yachting career.

What kind of hobbies do you have, or what do you like to do in your free time?

I enjoy wind surfing, running, weight training, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

Is the yachting industry a career for you, or more of a sabbatical?

The yachting industry is a career for me.

Describe what type of situation on board you feel you would fit in best?

I enjoy a situation where the boat is ran in a very professional manner.  I would fit in well with a boat that is very busy.  In addition, the crew should respect each other and know how to have fun as well.  Lastly, I feel most comfortable when there is a shared responsibility on multiple duties.

Mate
How much responsibility should the Mate take on, to provide for a smooth Captain - Mate relationship?

The Mate should be honest with the captain when it comes to the workload.  If you don't think you can do it, communicate that to the Captain.  Solid trust and communication will mold the relationship to where it needs to be.

How would you handle a scenario where two crew members are becoming a couple, on a boat where couples are not allowed?

As a Mate, you are managing agreements which are made on an adult-to-adult basis.   I would be empathetic and seek to understand what is going on with the relationship.  I would then remind them of the agreement they signed when they were hired.  We would discuss the possible options and if a solution didn't surface, we would have to take it to the Captain.

What can you do to ensure that your Deckhands are kept busy and challenged by their job?

I would do my best to hire ambitous crew who want success.  I would try and create methods or ways which kept their interest on the projects at hand.  I would come up with new ways to challenge them.  I have always been a fan of the "Continuous Improvement" philosophy.

Captain
Sorry, but the candidate has not yet had this interview.
