General
Why did you leave your most recent position? I am currently working as an engineer in the manufacturing industry. I find this industry to be purely bottom line driven, which I am finding to be conflicting with my holistic attitude towards my work and life.
What kind of hobbies do you have, or what do you like to do in your free time?  I enjoy carefully researching and experimenting on what ever I feel like knowing more about. My hobbies also include swimming and mountainbiking with the occasional jog or meditation.
Is the yachting industry a career for you, or more of a sabbatical?  I am a hard working person who enjoys and is fascinated by the ocean. I am hoping to merge these two passions of mine. I could not think of anything better than taking a break from work and not being in the constant hustle of an urban environment.
Describe what type of situation on board you feel you would fit in best? I have a B Eng degree in Mechatronic engineering. With this background I feel I am capable of fulfilling the role of a Junior Engineer. I am comfortable of dealing with and learning from Electrical, Mechanical and computer related problems, together with maintenance issues.
Engineer
How often do you you feel you should have to help out serving meals or tending bar? I feel it could be a nice break from my usual duties. I am always keen to help out where i can. Dealing with people in a hospitality environment can be challenging. I'm up for it:)
How would you handle a situation where you feel the boat is not 'ready' to leave the dock, but the departure date cannot be changed? I will monitor and record information regarding the area/areas that I feel are not 'ready'. The risks associate with the observed inconsistencies need to be clearly documented and communicated to the respective persons.
How important is it to you to remain clean and presentable when there are guests on board? I understand that cleanliness and presentablity in the hospitality industry in important. The possiblity of getting dirty in the engineering environment is likely, therefore I would need to ensure I am presentable before being seen by guests.
Between the Mate and the Engineer, who do you feel should be 2nd in command? According to the Luxury Yacht Group the Mate should be able to take over from the Captain in his absence. This is understandable as the Engineers job is to keep everything in working order for the Captain to operate and delegate. Therefore the mate would have more relavent skills to take over as Captain.
How important is having an unlimited budget vital to the smooth operation of a luxury yacht? An unlimited budget would be optimum, however unlikely. There will always be cost implications involved in engineering decisions. The possible benefits of additional costs need to be clearly communicated to the relevant person/persons. The area of benefit would need to be of relative importance to the person with the money to spend.
