I started my own business, "So Cal Sailing", 2 years ago in San Diego, California.  I worked as an independent contractor, Captaining vessels for a rental boat fleet of 60+ boats, from 22'-45', mostly sail.  It is very seasonal work, and busy from May to October.  The work slows down considerably from November to April.  I am looking for more full-time, year round employment in the yachting industry. 

I enjoy surfing, windsurfing and diving.  The ocean is my passion and I spend most of my free time on or around the water.  I also enjoy spending time with family and friends.

I started working at a boat rental facility at age 16, almost 20 years ago.  I continued to seek employment on the water, so yes, boating has become my primary source of income.  I am looking to further this interest and move into yachting, expanding my experiene on bigger boats, as a career.

I am interested in learning more about larger vessels and the yachting industry.  I would like to get on a boat with a captain that is willing to share and teach me.  I enjoy studying charts, learning boat systems and gaining knowledge of the water.  That being said, I dont mind getting my hands dirty varnishing, waxing, etc.  I enjoy working with others as a team to getting a project completed.

Deckhand duties will also include interacting with guests, supporting other staff as needed, handling lines, maintaining and handling water sports equipment, and anything else that might arise during a voyage or at anchor.  

I feel that it is important to work together and communicate effectively.  I have been teaching boating for over 15 years and understand the importance of having patience with others to get the job done successfully.
