General
Why did you leave your most recent position?

I am currently day working close to Cannes, varnishing, painting, deck sanding and light metal work.

What kind of hobbies do you have, or what do you like to do in your free time?

I am a windsurf/sailing/poweboat instructor so in my spare time like to windsurf whenever the conditions let me!! I sail whenever I get the chance but recently due to work I have found it imposible. I like to keep very althletic and use the gym (Crossfit) 5 times a week and try to run or climb at the weekends. My main interests are watersports, nutrition, world cinema/documenatries and the outdoors. I like to dive (when the waters nice and warm!!) also. I have travelled throughout Brazil, Dominican Republic, Kenya, Tanzaneer and Europe doing all these sports and would love to continue as part of my yatch career.

Is the yachting industry a career for you, or more of a sabbatical?

For the last 5 years I have worked within the watersports industry mainly teaching Windsurfing, Sailing and Powerboating  from children to mature professionals. I have travelled extensively and am now looking to further myself in throughout yachting.

I have gained extensive knowledge and experience in this time and want to progress by achieving a Master of Yachts qualification (with IYT), preferably Sail within the next 3 months. I am therefore looking forward to gaining employment on M/Y or S/Y where I can progress forward and learn as much as possible to pursue a yachting career further, long term.

I am very keen to learn as mush as possible and would therefore like to join a mid size yacht of sail or motor so I can possibly perform a wider range of tasks from engineering through to mate. As said above I am keen to complete the Master of Yachts as soon as possible there progression and experience is vital for me.

Describe what type of situation on board you feel you would fit in best?

In the future I want to become an OOW, as I feel I have fantastic skills and a personality to manage people in the correct way and therefore want to push forward and gain this more experience. For now as a deckhand I would feel most conforatble as I have a wide knowledge of water based skills and hands on experience with docking line, ropework, exterior cleaning, professionalish and maturity. I have also worked in many positions such as scaffolding/stone cleaning/winter maintenance which are not on my yatching c.v therevfore attaining many skills that apply to the dehands position.

DeckHand
What do you feel is the primary responsibility of the Deckhand, aside from the exterior maintenance of the vessel?

Working as a well oiled team member. Someone that can change roles quickly and efficiently and do this in a very safe mannor. Asissting all other crew members when the time calls for it through long hours while maintaining professioinalism.

What do you feel is the most important quality for a successful Deckhand to have?

The most imposrtant quality is organisation, someone that can be trusted to work well on their own if necessary regarding the task given and can push through when the going gets tough. A dechand needs to be reliable and counted on.
