DECKHAND JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Function
Responsible for the upkeep of the exterior of the
vessel, all deck equipment and maintenance, safe docking
procedures.
Responsibilities
- To understand and carry out watches, both
underway and as Designated Duty Person (DDP)
- To ensure safe shipboard procedures when
docking by using lines, fenders, and boat hooks etc. and other procedures e.g.
refueling, disposing of shipboard waste etc.
- Understanding and implementing maritime
flag, anchor, navigation lights and tender protocols, as per the First Mate’s
orders.
- Ensure the guests are assisted with their
baggage, water toys, shore excursions and service as requested by them.
- Ensuring every work area is presentable at
all times, regardless of activity.
- Presenting a professional attitude and
appearance in all situations.
- Keeping updated records of products used and
required for the deck department as per the First Officer’s requests.
Qualifications
- STCW 95
- Any other licensing that may be required by
the individual vessel: USCG 50Ton, 100 Ton, RYA YachtMaster offshore.
- CPR, First Aid, Automated External
Defibrillator usage.
