CAPTAIN
ENGINEER JOB DESCRIPTION
|

Job Function
|
|
Responsible for all engines and machinery on the
vessel and on all tenders.
|
|
|
Responsibilities
|
- To create and implement a preventative
maintenance program for all machinery onboard.
- To monitor and keep a log of fuel and water
usage, and inform the First Officer or Captain of the effects usage to
the vessel eg: refueling timing and location planning, water maker
usage.
- Implementing all safety procedures related to
the engineering department e.g. refueling, oil changes.
- Conducting crew safety training in all aspects
of the engineering department, so that each crewmember is familiar and
comfortable with engine room/mechanical/electrical safety and watch
keeping responsibilities underway and within the engine room.
- Creating and maintaining equipment inspection,
scheduled maintenance, and engine room watch logs.
- To keep an accurate and complete inventory of
parts.
- Keeping work area
presentable at all times, regardless of activity.
Maintaining personal appearance at all times, whether ashore or
onboard. Interaction with guests and contract laborers,
maintaining a professional demeanor in all situations.
- Good knowledge of shipboard navigational equipment,
VHF, SSB, GPS for usage when acting as relief Captain, and for
repair.
- Knowledge of Rules of the Road and basic
navigational skills.
- Thorough knowledge, understanding and
proficiency with all machinery onboard:
Electrical, Refrigeration, Plumbing and Sanitation,
Hydraulics, Diesel Mechanics, Tenders and Toys (Jet Ski, Wave Runner)
Engines, Electronics, Interior and Exterior hardware
repair.
- Implementing
and adhering to environmental catastrophe management regulations as
required by law e.g. Oil spills, bilge pumping, waste disposal
etc.
- Preventative
measures in all transfers of pollutants e.g. fuel, oil etc.
- Excellent
trouble shooting ability.

Qualifications
|
- Licensing as required by vessel tonnage, waters
cruised and machinery onboard.
- Previous yachting or mechanical experience,
preferable in the yachting industry.
- Willingness to work long hours, and maintain a
professional attitude.
- Enthusiastic, eager and hardworking with a
positive general outlook.
- STCW 95
with advanced fire fighting an advantage.
