This guideline is a general average of current starting yearly salaries, based on US dollars, and not specific to power or sail, private or charter, foreign or American owned yachts. It has been derived from actual placement records and job orders received by Crew Unlimited, and changes periodically.  Salaries do vary depending on the specific qualifications of the employee, the amount of owner/guest usage, whether private or charter, and itinerary of the vessel.

In addition to salary, it is expected that owners will provide food, uniforms, transportation, and other on-board expenses such as laundry, soap, linens, etc. Health and Dental insurance after a probationary period of 30-90 days, as well as periodical performance evaluations and pay increases, is standard. Vacation and time off vary with each vessel, but 4-6 weeks paid holiday per year, and a 5 ½-6 day work week is standard. (revised July 2006)
